DANVILLE, Ky. -- The W&L volleyball team took part in the Halloween Bash hosted by Centre on Saturday and emerged with a spotless 3-0 record. Washington and Lee wraps up the regular season with a record of 28-6 overall and 10-0 in league play.
The Generals defeated Mt. St. Joseph, 3-1 (26-24, 20-25, 25-16, 25-16), in their opening match and followed it with a 3-1 win over Centre (25-23, 22-25, 25-15, 25-20). W&L closed out its day with a 3-0 sweep of Asbury (25-13, 25-22, 25-15).
Junior Rachael Phillips (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Prep) led the Generals in the win over Mt. St. Joseph as she totaled 17 kills and 30 digs. Senior Laura Maurer (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII) added 14 kills and 22 digs and junior Kelly Harrison (Knoxville, Tenn./Webb School) contributed 17 digs. Junior Megan Steinhardt (Cedar Park, Texas/Cedar Park) chipped in 10 digs to go with 34 assists.
It was Philips, leading the way again in the Generals victory over Centre. She notched 15 kills and 13 digs, while senior Jessica Ulrich (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) had 14 kills and 14 digs. Sophomores Louise Brooks (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) and Marah Schmitz (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) and senior Kassie Bagley (Midlothian, Va./James River) chipped in eight kills apiece. Steinhardt amassed 52 assists, and Harrison contributed 24 digs.
In the sweep of Asbury, the Generals once again received a strong showing from Phillips as she notched 11 kills and 11 digs. Ulrich led W&L with 15 kills, while Schmitz had 14 digs to go with eight kills of her own. Harrison topped the Blue and White with 26 digs and added three service aces, while Steinhardt logged 28 assists. Junior Kristi Stevens (Overland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission South) added 15 assists and eight digs.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Friday when it takes on Guilford in the quarterfinal round of the ODAC Tournament. The match is set to begin at 4:00 pm. The ODAC Volleyball Tournament is being hosted by Hollins University.
