LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The W&L volleyball team improved to 15-4 overall and 6-0 in the ODAC with a 3-0 victory over Lynchburg on Tuesday evening.
The Generals kept pace with Randolph-Macon, 3-0 winners over Sweet Briar, with the 25-20, 25-21, 25-20 sweep of the Hornets at Turner Gymnasium.
W&L was led by sophomore middle blocker Louise Brooks (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) and sophomore outside hitter Marah Schmitz (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) who tallied nine kills apiece, while junior outside hitter Rachael Phillips (Tampa, Fl./Tampa Prep) added seven. Junior setter Megan Steinhardt (Cedar Park, Texas/Cedar Park) paced the Generals with 27 assists and 15 digs. Junior libero Kelly Harrison (Knoxville, Tenn./Webb School) added 10 digs, and Phillips and Schmitz chipped in nine.
Washington and Lee returns to action this weekend when it takes part in the Averett Invitational. W&L opens play on Friday when it takes on Salem at 2:00 pm.
