LEXINGTON, Va. -- Three different players notched a goal to lift the Washington and Lee women's soccer team to a 3-0 ODAC win over Eastern Mennonite on Tuesday afternoon at Watt Field.
The Generals (8-3, 6-1) got on board when junior midfielder Maggie Sutherland (Pittsburgh, Pa./Sewickley Academy) found the back of the net unassisted at the 30:46 mark to give W&L a 1-0 advantage at the half.
Washington and Lee then scored a pair of goals in the opening 4:24 of the second period as first-year forwards Kat Barnes (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) and Allie Espina (Gaithersburg, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) both tallied markers en route to the shutout.
First-year netminder Emily Leary (Loveland, Ohio/Kings) played the entire game between the pipes for W&L and stopped one shot, while EMU (6-4, 4-1) sophomore Abi Diffenbach (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) also played 90 minutes and registered 10 saves.
W&L returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Lynchburg for a 7:00 pm game.
