W&L Volleyball Tops Mary Baldwin, 3-0, and Mary Washington, 3-0

LEXINGTON, Va. – Hosting a tri-vite for the second time this season, the W&L volleyball team defeated Mary Washington (3-0) and Mary Baldwin (3-0) on Saturday afternoon to improve to 14-4 on the season.

Facing Mary Baldwin (2-19) for the second time this season, the Generals defeated the Fighting Squirrels 25-21, 25-20, 25-10 in the final match of the day. W&L opened the day by defeating Mary Washington (12-8) 25-18, 26-24, 25-21.

In the victory over Mary Washington, the Generals received 11 kills from junior outside hitter Rachael Phillips (Tampa, Fl./Tampa Prep) with senior right side Jessica Ulrich (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) adding nine. Junior setter Megan Steinhardt (Cedar Park, Texas/Cedar Park) tallied 31 assists and junior libero Kelly Harrison (Knoxville, Tenn./Webb School) led the way with 21 digs. Ulrich and Phillips added nine digs apiece.

It was Ulrich leading the way in the defeat of MBC. She hit at a .688 clip en route to totaling 11 kills and also led the Generals with seven digs. Sophomore outside hitter Marah Schmitz (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) added eight kills and senior right side Alex Scaggs (West Chester, Pa./Unionville) chipped in six. Steinhardt and sophomore setter Jenna Finger (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) tallied 17 and 10 assists, respectively.

 W&L returns to the court when it travels to Lynchburg on Tuesday for a 6:30 pm game.
