W&L Volleyball Downs Randolph-Macon, 3-0

LEXINGTON, Va. – In a battle of teams with identical 9-0 records in ODAC play, it was the W&L volleyball team that prevailed over Randolph-Macon, sweeping the Yellow Jackets, 3-0, to assure itself the No. 1 seed in the ODAC Tournament.

The Generals (25-6, 10-0 ODAC) defeated R-MC (23-8, 9-1), winners of 17 of its last 19 matches, 25-17, 25-21, 25-19.

W&L was led by senior Laura Maurer's (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII) 13 kills and 20 digs, while junior Rachael Phillips (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Prep) added 10 kills and 16 digs. Junior Kelly Harrison (Knoxville, Tenn./Webb School) chipped in 11 digs.

Junior setter Megan Steinhardt (Cedar Park, Texas/Cedar Park) amassed 18 assists and eight digs, with classmate Kristi Stevens (Overland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission South) logging 19 assists.

Maurer, and fellow seniors Jessica Ulrich (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg), Kassie Bagley (Midlothian, Va./James River) and Alex Scaggs (West Chester, Pa./Unionville) all played their final match at the Warner Center and were honored at the beginning of the evening. The foursome recorded a 39-1 (.975) record in ODAC regular season play over four seasons and an overall record of 115-25 (.821).

The Generals have one final tune-up before participating in the ODAC Tournament, set to be played next weekend, when they travel to Centre to take part in the Halloween Bash. W&L opens play on Saturday with a 10:00 am match against Mount St. Joesph.
