W&L Field Hockey Falls to Randolph-Macon, 3-1

ASHLAND, Va. – The W&L field hockey team dropped to 7-8 on the season and 4-2 in the ODAC with a 3-1 loss at Randolph-Macon on Wednesday.

The Yellow Jackets (7-8, 5-1) opened the scoring at the 6:41 mark when Mary McCarthy scored off a feed from Kendall Lam to make it 1-0 RMC.

W&L answered at the 9:34 mark courtesy of a Stephanie Mansey (Mendham, N.J./Randolph) pass that found senior Christina Merchant (Midlothian, Va./Collegiate) who was able to put it past RMC keeper, Ashley Crouch.

The Yellow Jackets took a 2-1 lead just before the half on a Jill Dixon marker, courtesy of a pass from Alison Wheeler, and added and insurance goal early in the second period when McCarthy scored unassisted.

Junior Caroline Habliston (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) played the entire game in the cage for the Generals and was credited with 10 saves as RMC outshot W&L 21-15.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Sweet Briar at 2:00 pm.
