W&L Volleyball Defeats Ferrum, 3-0

LEXINGTON, Va. – Fueled by a 14-6 scoring run to close out the second set, the W&L volleyball team defeated Ferrum, 3-0, on Thursday evening.

After winning the first set 25-18, W&L was trailing, 17-11, in the second and in danger of dropping a set at home for the second consecutive match, when the Generals went on a 14-6 scoring run to close out the set 25-23. W&L then won the third set, 25-5 to improve to 12-4 on the season and 9-0 at the Warner Center.

Washington and Lee was led by junior Rachael Phillips' (Tampa, Fl./Tampa Prep) 15 kills, while senior right side Jessica Ulrich (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) added nine. Junior libero Kelly Harrison (Knoxville, Tenn./Webb School) paced the Generals with 16 digs. Sophomore libero Summer Goldberg (Marietta, Ga./Woodward Academy) added 14 digs and Phillips chipped in 12. W&L received 30 assists from junior setter Megan Steinhardt (Cedar Park, Texas/Cedar Park).

The Generals return to action this weekend when they host both Mary Washington and Mary Baldwin beginning at 11:00 am.
