W&L Volleyball Notches Two Wins at Averett Invitational

DANVILLE, Va. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball wrapped up with Averett Invitational with a perfect 4-0 record following 3-0 victories over LaGrange and Ferrum on Saturday.

The Generals breezed by LaGrange 25-6, 25-12, 25-8 in the their first match of the day, then followed with a 25-18, 25-19, 25-15 triumph over Ferrum to push their consecutive sets won streak to 23.

In defeating LaGrange, the Generals featured a balanced attack as sophomore middle blocker Louise Brooks (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) led W&L with seven kills. Senior right side Alex Scaggs (West Chester, Pa./Unionville) and first-year Megan Daily (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook) added five apiece. Sophomore setter Jenna Finger (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) recorded 13 digs and 14 assists while junior setter Megan Steinhardt (Cedar Park, Texas/Cedar Park) contributed 15 assists and 10 digs. For the game, W&L recorded just two attack errors while notching 36 kills.

The Generals received 12 kills from senior right side Jessica Ulrich (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg), while junior outside hitter Rachael Phillips (Tampa, Fl./Tampa Prep) and sophomore outside hitter Marah Schmitz (Phoenix, Md./Dulney) added 10 and 9, respectively, as W&L swept Ferrum for the second time this season. Schmitz led the Blue and White with 18 digs; Phillips notched 17 and Ulrich 16. Steinhardt was credited with 36 assists.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Guilford for a 7:00 pm game.
