SWEET BRIAR, Va. --The Washington and Lee women's soccer team scored four goals in the second half en route to a 5-0 victory over Sweet Briar on Wednesday afternoon at the Babcock Athletic Field.
After 35 minutes of scoreless play, the Generals got on board when junior midfielder Maggie Sutherland (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) scored unassisted to take a 1-0 lead at the half.
W&L (6-3, 4-1) opened up scoring in the second half when first-year defender Page Minton (Bowling Green, Ky.Bowling Green) found first-year defender Briegel Moss (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart, who sent one past SBC first-year netminder Seanne Weekes at 54:07. Minton added another marker off of an assist from Moss just 37 seconds later to take a 3-0 lead and the Generals held on for the five-goal triumph.
First-year Emily Leary (Loveland, Ohio/Kings) played the full 90:00 between the pipes for W&L and registered three saves, while Weekes also played the duration and stopped five shots for SBC (2-5, 0-2).
The Generals return to action Saturday when they host Randolph-Macon at 12:00 pm.
