W&L Men's Basketball Tops Eastern Mennonite, 79-65

LEXINGTON, Va. – Senior forwards Greg Bienemann (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) and Femi Kusimo (Cross Lanes, W.Va./Charleston Catholic) combined to shoot 22-30 (.733) from the floor and scored a combined 45 points in leading Washington and Lee to a 79-65 win at Eastern Mennonite in ODAC men's basketball action on Wednesday evening.

The win was W&L's fourth in a row, giving the Generals their first four-game winning streak since the 1989-90 season. As a team, W&L shot 57.6 percent (34-59) from the floor and held a 40-28 advantage on the boards.

W&L (6-4, 2-1) never trailed in the contest and led by as many as 11 points in the first half en route to a 42-35 lead at the break.

The Generals opened the second stanza on a 15-6 run to assume a 16-point lead (57-41) at the 14:42 mark, but the Royals (3-5, 0-2) used a quick 9-0 spurt to cut it to a seven-point game at 57-50 with 9:44 left in the game. However, W&L would again take control of the contest with a 13-0 run that included a combined 10 points from Bienemann and Kusimo to take a commanding 20-point lead (70-50) at the 6:11 mark in cruising to the win.

Bienemann led W&L in scoring with 24 points on 12-of-19 shooting from the floor. He also grabbed seven rebounds, dished four assists and blocked two shots. Kusimo tallied a season-best 21 points on 10-of-11 shooting, grabbed nine rebounds, had three assists and two steals. Junior forward Kirk Jones (Maple Glenn, Pa./Germantown Academy) chipped in 11 points and five boards.

Senior forward Brad Parkes paced EMU with 18 points and six rebounds. Freshman guard George Johnson added 14 points on 4-of-4 shooting from beyond the arc.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Sunday as it hosts Roanoke for a 4:00 pm contest.
