LEXINGTON, Va. -- Senior forward Greg Bienemann (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) tied his career-high with 36 points to lead Washington and Lee to a 72-60 win over Eastern Mennonite in ODAC men's basketball action on Wednesday evening at the Warner Center.
The win improved W&L to 11-5 overall and 7-2 in the ODAC and extended the Generals' winning streak to five-straight games, the program's longest such streak since winning nine in a row during the 1988-89 season.
Eastern Mennonite (4-12, 1-9) held a 7-6 lead just 4:18 into the game, but W&L used an 11-0 run over the next 2:55 to assume a 17-7 lead with 12:47 left in the opening stanza en route to a 35-27 lead at the half.
The Generals stretched out to a 14-point lead on several occasions during the final 20 minutes and EMU could get no closer than eight points as W&L won its fifth-straight in the series with the Royals.
Bienemann scored 18 points in each half and shot 14-of-21 (.667) from the floor. He also grabbed seven rebounds. Junior guard Chris McHugh (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) chipped in 10 points, while sophomore forward Zac White (Baltimore, Md./Park School) posted eight points and five rebounds.
EMU was paced by senior forward Brad Parkes (Winchester, Va./James Wood), who totaled 16 points and six rebounds. Freshman guard Todd Phillips (Waynesboro, Va./Waynesboro) notched 13 points, while senior center Corey Bailey (Centreville, Va./Brentsville) snared a game-high 16 rebounds and scored six points.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday as it travels to Roanoke College for a 7:00 pm contest.
