LEXINGTON, Va. -- Denison freshman midfielder Jennifer Clemmer (Hixson, Tenn./Baylor) scored the lone goal of the contest as the 10-ranked Big Red defeated 13th-ranked Washington and Lee, 1-0, in the first game of the Washington and Lee Women's Soccer Classic at Watt Field on Saturday afternoon.

After a scoreless first half, Denison got on the scoreboard as Clemmer sent one past W&L junior goalkeeper Kiki Moreo (Westport, Conn./Staples) at 47:47.

Denison (3-1) held a 17-12 advantage in shots and a 6-5 edge in corner kicks over the Blue and White. Moreo stopped six would-be goals for the Generals (0-1).

Senior netminder Liz Gillette (Chardon, Ohio/Notre Dame) also made six stops for the Big Red.

In the second game of the W&L Classic, Sewanee downed Randolph-Macon, 2-0. Sophomore midfielder Allison Davis (Carbondale, Ill./Carbondale) and freshman forward La'Toyia Slay (Greenville, Miss./St. Joseph's) each tallied a goal in the Tigers' win.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Sunday as it takes on Sewanee in the second day of the W&L Classic at 12:00 pm. The second game features Denison and Randolph-Macon and is slated to start at 2:30 pm.
