BALTIMORE, Md. -- The ninth-ranked Johns Hopkins men's soccer team used four first-half goals to defeat Washington and Lee, 4-1, in the first day of the Citrano Medical Labs Kickoff Classic on Saturday evening at Homewood Field.

Johns Hopkins (4-0) took an early 1-0 lead in the 12th minute when Chand Balfour headed a ball past W&L senior goalkeeper Ted Sheedy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel). W&L (1-1) countered with a tally from sophomore midfielder Whitt Larkin (Alexandria, Va. / Episcopal) off an assist from senior forward Jack Palmer (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown) at 32:28. However, the Blue Jays re-gained the lead less than two and half minutes later off a goal from Akash Naik and then put two more scores on the board in the first stanza as they held on for the 4-1 final.

Naik led JHU with one goal and one assist and Ben McAbee had two helpers. Matt Mierley played the duration in goal for the Blue Jays and made four saves, while Sheedy tallied seven saves for W&L.

The Generals return to action on Sunday when they taken on Buffalo State in the second game of the Citrano Medical Labs Kickoff Classic at 2:00 pm.
