LEXINGTON, Va.-- Sophomore forward Sallie Armstrong (Houston, Texas/St. Johns) tallied two goals to lead the Washington and Lee field hockey team to a 3-2 victory over Randolph-Macon on Friday evening at the W&L Turf Field.
The Yellow Jackets (3-6, 1-0) opened the scoring at the 2:55 mark when freshman forward Mary McCarthy (Rixeyville, Va./Culpeper) slipped a shot past senior goalkeeper Tara Rubenstein (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr).
Junior defender Liz Garson (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) tied the game at 1-1 at the 4:11 mark when she found the back of the cage off of assists from senior defender Laura Nugent (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) and senior midfielder Kendall Korte (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox).
Armstrong provided the Generals (4-2, 1-0) the lead again at the 14:56 mark when she scored off of an assist from Korte, and then gave W&L an insurance goal just 2:09 later when she scored off a feed from Garson for a 3-1 advantage.
Rubenstein played the first half in goal for the Blue and White and was credited with the win after making one save. Sophomore Caroline Habliston (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) played the second half, making three saves.
Junior goalkeeper Ashley Crouch (Chester,Va./Thomas Dale) played the entire contest for RMC, registering eight saves.
The Generals return to ODAC action on Tuesday as they travel to Eastern Mennonite for a 7:00 pm contest.
