W&L Volleyball Wins Twice at Emory Tournament

ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team posted victories in both of its contests on the second day of the Emory Tournament with 3-0 wins over both Maryville and Piedmont on Saturday afternoon in Atlanta, Ga. The Generals defeated Maryville, 30-20, 30-25, 31-29, in the morning match and then followed that up with a 30-28, 30-19, 30-23, win over Piedmont in the afternoon contest.

In the win over Maryville, the Generals (5-5) were paced by senior right side Jess Hudock's (Overland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission South) 12 kills, seven digs and three aces and sophomore outside hitter Rachael Phillips (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Prep), who tallied 10 kills and seven digs. Junior right side Jess Ulrich (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area) posted nine kills and nine digs and senior setter Lauren Rudolph (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Concordia Lutheran) registered 20 assists and nine digs. Also, sophomore setter Kristi Stevens (Overland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission South) notched 20 assists.

Against the Lions (10-4), junior outside hitter Laura Maurer (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII) led W&L (6-5) with 12 kills and 11 digs. Phillips racked up 16 kills, while Ulrich totaled 10 kills and nine digs. Rudolph and Stevens posted 21 and 20 assists, respectively.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to Emory & Henry for a 7:00 pm contest.
