W&L Volleyball Drops Two Matches at Emory Tournament

ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team dropped both its matches on the opening day of the Emory University Invitational. The Generals were defeated by Heidelberg, 25-30, 27-30, 30-26, 30-24, 15-13 in their opener before falling to No. 4 Emory, 30-17, 30-25, 30-28 in the second match.

In the loss against Heidelberg (13-1), sophomore outside hitter Rachael Phillips (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Prep) recorded 15 kills and 12 digs, while sophomore setter Kristi Stevens (Overland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission South) notched 28 assists. Senior right side Jess Hudock (Overland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission South) added nine kills and 15 digs and senior setter Lauren Rudolph (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Concordia Lutheran) registered 23 assists and three aces. Junior right side Jess Ulrich (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area) chipped in with 13 kills and nine digs, while junior outside hitter Laura Maurer (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII) had 17 kills and 18 digs.

Against Emory (12-3), the Generals (4-5) were led by Phillips, who had nine kills and nine digs. Stevens added 17 assists and seven digs, while Hudock recorded 11 kills and six digs. Ulrich also registered five kills, two aces, and eight digs, while Maurer recorded nine kills and 10 digs. Rudolph totaled 19 assists and seven digs.

The Generals return to action on Saturday for the second day of the Emory University Invitational taking on Maryville at 11:30 am and Piedmont at 2:00 pm.
