W&L Women’s Hoops Picks Up Seventh-Straight Win, 55-50, Over Roanoke

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Senior center Jessica Hunsinger (Mayer, Ariz./Orme School) netted her fifth-straight double-double as the Washington and Lee women's basketball team won its seventh-straight game with a 55-50 victory over Roanoke on Saturday afternoon at the Warner Center.

The Generals (11-8, 8-7) jumped out to an early 12-4 lead in the first 7:13 of the contest, but the Maroons (10-10, 8-7) used a 19-8 run to take a 23-20 advantage with 4:03 to play in the first half in leading 28-26 at the break.

W&L opened the second half with an 11-4 run, taking a seven-point lead (39-32) at 12:36. However, Roanoke chipped away at the lead, eventually taking a two-point advantage (47-45) with 4:07 to go in the contest. Junior forward Kristen Krouchick (Holland, Pa./Nazareth Academy) drained a jumper to tie the contest at 47-47 with 3:42 remaining and Hunsinger dropped in a layup to put the Generals up for good (49-47) with 2:41 left.

The Blue and White was led by Hunsinger, who tied a season-high with 19 points and added 14 rebounds. Hunsinger, who is W&L's all-time leading rebounder, is now just six caroms shy of 1,000.

Sophomore guard Bethany Ridenhour (Westwood, N.J./Holy Angels ) also scored in double-figures for W&L with 14 markers, while Krouchick tallied 12 points.

The Maroons were paced by junior forward Erin Hanson (Blacksburg, Va./Blacksburg), who notched 14 points and eight points. Junior forward Sara Keller (Delaware, Ohio/Buckey Valley) registered a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

W&L returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Guilford at 7:00 pm.
