LEXINGTON, Va. -- Senior forward Brandon Adair (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) totaled 29 points on 13-of-17 shooting from the field to lead eighth-ranked Virginia Wesleyan to a 61-49 victory over Washington and Lee in ODAC men's basketball action on Sunday afternoon at the Warner Center.
Virginia Wesleyan (19-3, 14-1) led just 15-14 with 9:50 left in the first half, but used an 11-1 run over the next 3:30 to take a 26-15 lead with 6:20 remaining before the break. The Generals cut it back to five points (28-23) at the 3:13 mark, but the Marlins again stretched their lead to 10 points (34-24) at the intermission.
The Generals (10-9, 5-8) remained within striking distance for much of the second half, but could get no closer down the stretch than nine points (58-49) with 2:46 left in the game.
Freshman forward Zac White (Baltimore, Md./Park School) led the Generals with a career-high 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor. Junior forward Greg Bienemann (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) added 14 points and nine rebounds.
Adair was joined in double figures for VWC by junior forward Tyler Fantin (Virginia Beach, Va./Floyd E. Kellam) and junior guard Ton Ton Belenga (Newport News, Va./Warwick), who posted 10 points each.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Wednesday as it travels to Emory & Henry for a 7:00 pm contest.
