VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The fourth-seeded Roanoke Maroons used a goal in each period to post a 2-0 victory over Washington and Lee in the finals of the ODAC Men's Soccer Tournament on Saturday evening at Virginia Wesleyan's Foster Field.
RC got on board early in the first half as Shaman Douglas slipped an unassited goal passed senior goalkeper Ted Sheedy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) in the fourth minute and then added an insurance tally the second half as Kayvon Sarmadi scored in the 70th minute.
Sheedy made two saves for W&L (12-3-3), while Austin Rose totaled five saves for the Maroons (12-7-1).
With the win, Roanoke secured the automatic berth to the NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament, while the Generals will wait for an at-large bid. The selection will take place on Sunday evening.
