LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's basketball team jumped out to a 22-6 lead in the opening 9:31 of the game and cruised to a 70-52 victory over Dickinson on Saturday afternoon at the Warner Center.
The Generals (1-3) began the game by hitting 12 of their first 15 shots from the floor and finished the opening 20 minutes with a 35-15 lead. Dickinson (3-1) chipped away at W&L's lead early in the second stanza, cutting it to a 12-point game (49-37) with 11:36 left, but the Generals pushed their advantage back to as many as 24 points (70-46) in claiming their first victory of the season.
W&L was led by senior forward Greg Bienemann (Chatham, N.J./Chatham), who tallied a season-high 24 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the field. Junior guard Isaiah Goodman (Richfield, Minn./Holy Angels) totaled 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting, while junior forward Kirk Jones (Maple Glenn, Pa./Germantown Academy) added 10 points.
Junior forward Tom Leszczynski (West Babylon, N.Y./St. Anthony's) led Dickinson with 18 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore forward Cory Kenny (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South) and junior guard Kizmahr Grell (Laurelton, N.Y./The Gunnery) chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday as it plays host to Randolph-Macon for a 2:00 pm contest.
