W&L Volleyball Collects Two Wins on Day Two of Averett Invitational

DANVILLE, Va. – The Washington and Lee volleyball team notched two victories in the Averett Invitational on Saturday. The Generals downed Queens 30-14, 31-29, 30-17 in the opener, before defeating Greensboro 30-23, 30-19, 30-23, in their second contest.

In the win over Queens (2-24), the Blue and White were led by junior outside hitter Laura Maurer (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII), who registered nine kills, 10 digs, and five service aces, while sophomore setter Kristi Stevens (Overland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission South) tallied 19 assists and six digs. Senior rightside Jess Hudock (Tampa, Fla./Holy Names) totaled nine kills and six digs, while senior setter Lauren Rudolph (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Concordia Lutheran) amassed 15 assists and four digs.

In the victory over Greensboro (11-12), Maurer again led W&L (14-5) with 13 kills and nine digs, while junior right side Jessica Ulrich (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area) had eight kills, 13 digs, and three service aces. Hudock added 10 kills and six digs and Stevens racked up 17 assists and two service aces. Also making headway for the Generals was sophomore outside hitter Rachael Phillips (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Prep), who chipped in 12 kills, while senior setter Lauren Rudolph (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Concordia Lutheran) registered 22 assists.

W&L returns to action on Tuesday evening as they host Roanoke College at 6:30 pm.
