LEXINGTON, Va. – Sophomore forward Sallie Armstrong (Houston, Texas/St. John's) notched two goals as the Washington and Lee Field Hockey team defeated Roanoke, 4-2, on Friday evening at the W&L Turf Field.

Armstrong gave the Blue and White a 1-0 lead just 1:10 into the game when she found the net unassisted. Freshman forward Poppy Hall (Towson, Md./Garrison Forest) followed with a goal at 17:42 off an assist from senior midfielder Kendall Korte (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) for a 2-0 lead and Armstrong found the back of the cage again at 32:40 off an assist from junior forward Christina Merchant (Midlothian, Va./Collegiate) to give W&L a 3-0 lead at the half.

The Generals (5-3, 2-1) extended to a 4-0 advantage just 3:07 into the second half when junior forward Guada Suarez (Mar del Plata, Argentina/Holy Trinity College) slipped one past Roanoke senior goalkeeper Lindsey Paz (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) off of an assist from sophomore midfielder Alex Caritis (Pittsburg, Pa./Shady Side Academy).

The Maroons (3-6, 3-1) got on the board at 62:11 when sophomore forward Mariah Vietri (Jamestown, R.I./Rocky Hill) scored off a feed from senior midfielder Juliet Leonard (Oakton, Va./James Madison) and added another score just 5:26 later as freshman forward Giovanna Boscolla (Oxford, Pa./Oxford Area) found the cage. However, Roanoke could get no closer than the 4-2 final.

Senior Tara Rubenstein (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr), sophomore Caroline Habliston (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephen's & St. Agnes), and freshman Emily Allender (Fort Worth, Texas/Trinity Valley School) all shared time in goal for the Generals. Habliston made two saves, while Rubenstein was credited with the win. Paz played the entire contest for Roanoke registering 14 saves.

The Generals return to ODAC action on Tuesday as they host Lynchburg at 6:30 pm.
