SALEM, Va. -- Roanoke's Jessica Joyner scored the game-winner as the Maroons topped Washington and Lee, 2-1, in the semifinals of the ODAC Women's Soccer Tournament on Wednesday evening at Kerr Stadium.
Tied at the half, the Maroons (17-2-1) took a 1-0 lead in the 54th minute as Kristen McCoy scored off an assist from Meredith Gruenwald. The Generals (16-4) quickly retaliated with a goal from senior forward Shana Oltmans (Albuquerque, N.M./Valley) less than four minutes later to knot the score at 1-1 in the 58th minute, but Joyner found the back of the net from close range in the 62nd minute to give RC the win.
Junior goalkeeper Kiki Moreo (Westport, Conn./Staples) made one save for W&L, while Erin Hanson stopped five would-be goals for RC.
With the win, the Maroons advance to the 2007 ODAC Championship match and will take the winner of the Virginia Wesleyan/Lynchburg contest on Saturday. The Generals will find out on Sunday evening if they received an at-large bid to the 2007 NCAA Tournament.
