LEXINGTON, Va. – Senior midfielder Kendall Korte (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) and junior forward Melissa Dolan (Centennial, Colo./Kent Denver) tallied two goals apiece to lead the Washington and Lee field hockey team to a 7-0 ODAC Tournament first-round triumph over Bridgewater on Saturday afternoon at the W&L Turf Field.
The Blue and White (11-6) opened the scoring when Korte scored an unassisted tally at the 14:55 mark and Dolan made it 2-0 with an unassisted stroke at 19:28. Freshman defender Kelly Tran (Simsbury, Conn./Ethel Walker) then found Korte, who slipped a shot past BC sophomore goalkeeper Elizabeth Sullivan (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam) for a 3-0 lead at 23:48. Dolan then scored again off of sophomore defender Grace McGee's (Virginia Beach, Va./Floyd E. Kellam) assist at the 27:45 mark to put the Generals up 4-0 at the half.
Korte and Dolan were joined in the scoring column by sophomore Alex Caritis (Pittsburg, Pa./Shady Side Academy), who notched an unassisted tally at 36:15, senior midfielder Kay Dyt (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes), who scored unassisted at the 39:44 mark, and junior forward Louise Bance (Manakin-Sabot, Va./St. Catherine's), who registered an unassisted goal at 57:20.
Senior Tara Rubenstein (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr), sophomore Caroline Habliston (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) and freshman Emily Allender (Fort Worth, Texas/Trinity Valley School) all shared time in the cage for W&L, combining for one save. Allender played the entire contest for the Eagles and registered 13 saves.
With the win, the Generals advance to the 2007 ODAC semifinals and will play the winner of Virginia Wesleyan and Lynchburg on Wednesday at a site to be determined. With the loss, Bridgewater's 2007 season has ended at 4-13 overall.
