LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee men's soccer team used two second-half goals to defeat Lynchburg, 2-0, in the quarterfinals of the 2007 ODAC Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Watt Field.
After nearly 75 scoreless minutes, senior midfielder Travis Short (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill) gave the Generals the lead when he knocked the ball in the net off an assist from sophomore midfielder Strock Moore (Birmingham, Ala./Briarwood Christian).
W&L (11-2-3) added an insurance goal just five minutes later when senior midfielder Josh Dodds (Marion, Iowa/Linn-Mar) headed a rebound passed LC goalkeeper Marcus Jordan (Lynchburg, Va./Germantown) at 79:45.
Jordan made four saves for the Hornets (10-6-2), while senior goalkeeper Ted Sheedy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) totaled five saves for the Generals (11-2-3).
Both teams registered 16 shots, while LC held an advantage in corner kicks (8-2).
The Generals will take on the winner of the Hampden-Sydney/Eastern Mennonite quarterfinal on Friday in the semifinals. The semifinals and finals will take place at the highest remaining seed. The game times have yet to be determined.
