SALEM, Va. -- Roanoke's Meredith Grunewald scored in the second overtime period to give the Maroons a 2-1 win over the 23rd-ranked Washington and Lee women's soccer team on Saturday evening at Kerr Stadium.
Roanoke (13-2-1, 9-1) took an early 1-0 lead in the first half as Kristen McCoy made good on a penalty kick in the eighth minute, but junior midfielder Kate Corr (Shrewsbury, N.J./Red Bank Regional) responded 75 minutes later with the tying goal for W&L (13-3, 8-2) to send the game to overtime.
The two teams were scoreless in the first extra period, but Grunewald found the net with just 2:36 to play in the second overtime to give RC the win.
Junior goalkeeper Kiki Moreo (Westport, Conn./Staples) played the entire contest in goal for W&L, making seven saves. Erin Hanson made four stops for Roanoke.
The Generals finish up their regular season schedule on Tuesday when they take on Eastern Mennonite at 3:00 pm.
