LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee field hockey team notched a 3-1 victory over ODAC-foe Bridgewater Tuesday evening at the W&L Turf Field.
The Generals opened the scoring when sophomore forward Sallie Armstrong (Houston, Texas/St. John's) struck an unassisted tally just 1:03 into the contest. Junior forward Melissa Dolan (Centennial, Colo./Kent Denver) scored off of an assist from senior midfielder Kendall Korte (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) at 25:10 to give the Blue and White a 2-0 lead at the half.
The Eagles (4-10, 2-4) and the Generals (8-4, 4-1) were quiet offensively much into the second half, until senior forward Maggie Nugent (Louisville, Ky./Collegiate) slipped a shot past BC goalkeeper Elizabeth Sullivan (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam) at the 66:10 mark. Bridgewater sophomore forward Christina Pybus (Manassas, Va./Forest Park) responded just 2:33 later and tallied the Eagles lone goal.
Senior Tara Rubenstein (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) and sophomore Caroline Habliston (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) shared time in the cage, combining to make five saves. Sullivan played the entire contest and registered 16 saves for Bridgewater.
The Generals return to action Thursday as they take on DePauw at 5:00 pm.
