FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Junior forward Alison Weckstein (Great Falls, Va./Langley) scored the game-winning goal to lift the University of Mary Washington to a 1-0 victory over Washington and Lee on Sunday afternoon at The Battleground Athletic Complex.
The Eagles (8-7) and the Generals (7-4) remained tied 0-0 through the first half and much of the second, until Weckstein slipped a shot past W&L senior goalkeeper Tara Rubenstein (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) with just 12:19 remaining in the half.
UMW edged the Blue and White in shots, 11-7, while the Generals held a 7-6 edge in penalty corners. Rubenstein played the entire contest for W&L and registered six saves, while freshman Chrissy Bowdren (Fairfax Station, Va./Robinson) also played the full 70:00 for the Eagles, stopping four shots.
The Generals return to competition on Tuesday as they host ODAC-foe Bridgewater for a 7:00 pm contest.
