Eastern Mennonite Bests W&L Women’s Basketball, 67-57

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's basketball team lost its sixth-straight contest with a 67-57 defeat at the hands of Eastern Mennonite in ODAC action Tuesday evening at the Warner Center.

The Royals (7-3, 5-2) jumped out to an early seven-point lead (7-0) with 16:25 with to play in the first half and never trailed in the contest. EMU led by as many as 14 points several times en route to 33-21 advantage at the break.

Eastern Mennonite upped its lead in the second half, extending the score to 37-22 with 17:41 to go. The Generals responded and eventually cut the lead to one point (46-45) with 8:44 remaining, but could get no closer as the Royals pulled out the 10-point victory.

W&L (3-7, 1-6) was hampered by a season-high 37 turnovers, including 27 in the first half. EMU also gave to ball up on 26 occasions.

The Blue and White were led by junior forward Kristen Krouchick (Holland, Pa./Nazareth Academy), who notched a double-double with 12 points and a career-high tying 10 rebounds. Senior center Jessica Hunsinger (Mayer, Ariz./Orme School) racked up seven points, a game-high 13 rebounds and tied her own program record with eight blocks. Sophomore guard Bethany Ridenhour (Westwood, N.J./Holy Angels) added 10 points.

EMU was paced by Carolyn Riley (Warrenton, Va./Liberty), who tallied 17 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore forward Kathleen Steele (Gainesville, Va./Brentsville) also scored 10 points.

W&L returns to action on Friday when it travels to Lynchburg for a 7 pm contest.
