W&L Women’s Basketball Falls To Roanoke, 63-52

SALEM, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's basketball team dropped its fifth-straight game on Friday evening as it fell at Roanoke College by a score of 63-52.

The Generals (3-6, 1-5) led by as many as six points during the first half, but saw the Maroons take a 29-26 lead into the locker room at halftime. The game featured seven ties and numerous lead changes until Roanoke assumed control of the game midway through the second stanza. With the Maroons leading 43-42 and 12:36 left in the game, W&L went cold from the floor and Roanoke surged on an 8-1 run to take a 51-43 advantage with 7:13 left in the game. The Generals could get no closer than five points the rest of the way as the Maroons improved to 5-5 overall and 3-3 in the ODAC.

Roanoke shot just 32.4 percent from the floor, but hit 15-of-17 free throws, including 14-of-16 in the decisive second half. The Generals managed to shoot just 31.6 percent from the floor and went 12-of-20 from the foul line.

Washington and Lee was paced by junior guard Emily Wolff (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton), who scored a career-high 15 points, pulled down nine rebounds and dished five assists. Senior center Jessica Hunsinger (Mayer, Ariz./Orme School) tallied 14 points, 11 rebounds and blocked six shots, setting a new W&L career record in the process. Hunsinger now has 196 career blocks, surpassing the mark of 193 set by Megan Babst '02.

Roanoke was paced by junior forward Erin Hanson's 19 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman guard Jaleesa Osborne added 13 points, six assists and four steals.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Tuesday evening as it hosts Eastern Mennonite for a 7:00 pm contest.
