W&L Women’s Basketball Upsets No. 24 Bridgewater, 65-60

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Junior forward Kristen Krouchick (Holland, Pa./Nazareth Academy) recorded 22 points and 10 rebounds as the Washington and Lee women's basketball defeated a ranked opponent for the first time in program history with a 65-60 win over No. 24 Bridgewater on Saturday afternoon in Lexington, Va.

The first half of the contest was back-and-forth and featured six ties. The Eagles (12-3, 9-2) led by as many as four points several times, but the Generals (7-8, 4-7) took a 29-28 advantage into halftime.

Bridgewater used a 17-7 run in the opening 5:27 of the second half to take a nine-point lead (45-36) at 14:33, but Washington and Lee battled back and tied the contest at 52-52 with 8:08 remaining. The game remained tight and was tied three times in the final eight minutes, but junior guard Emily Wolff's (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) layup at 1:33 gave W&L the lead for good (61-60) and the Generals connected on 4-of-6 from the free throw line to earn the five-point victory.

Krouchick's double-double paced the Blue and White, while senior center Jessica Hunsinger (Mayer, Ariz./Orme School) notched eight points, a game-high 17 rebounds and four blocks.

The Eagles were led by senior guard Amy Childs (Covington, Va./Alleghany), who tallied 19 points. Senior guard Katy Herr Lovell (Staunton, Va./Robert E. Lee) scored 15 points and grabbed nine boards, while sophomore forward Tori Ruckman (Verona, Va./Fort Defiance) rounded out the BC scorers in double-figures with 10 points. The Generals held the Eagles' leading scorer senior guard Shannon Scales (Chesterfield, Va./Commonwealth Christian) to no points.

W&L returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to Guilford for a 7 pm contest.
