VWC Tops W&L Women’s Basketball, 66-50

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's basketball team dropped its fourth-straight contest with a 66-50 loss to ODAC-foe Virginia Wesleyan on Tuesday evening at the Warner Center.

The Marlins (8-3, 5-1 ODAC) took an early 8-2 lead in the first 3:15 of the contest and never trailed in the game. VWC led by as many as 13 points (26-13) with 6:39 to play in the first half, but the Generals cut the lead to seven (31-24) at the break.

W&L (3-5, 1-4 ODAC) opened the second half by slicing the Marlins' advantage just three points (35-32) with 15:42 to play, but Virginia Wesleyan responded with a 24-5 run and led by as many as 22 points (59-37) with 5:23 left in regulation.

The Marlins forced 20 Generals' turnovers, which led to 20 of the their 66 points. They also notched 30 points in the paint to W&L's 16.

W&L was led by junior forward Kristen Krouchick (Holland, Pa./Nazareth Academy), who tallied a team-high 16 points. Sophomore forward Kara Nadeau (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton) added a season-high 12 rebounds, along with five assists and five steals, while junior guard Emily Wolff (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) registered a career-high 10 rebounds, six points and five assists.

Senior forward Nicole Thurston (Ramstein, Germany/America) paced the Marlins with a double-double, posting 16 points and 10 rebounds. Junior guard Chelsea Barrett (Laurel, Md./Columbia Atholton) also had 16 markers.

W&L returns to action on Friday when it takes on Roanoke at 7 pm in Salem, Va.
