LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee wrestling team finished third out of eight teams at the W&L Tournament held on Saturday afternoon at the Warner Center.
Muhlenberg won the team title with 86.0 points, followed by Johns Hopkins (77.5), W&L (75.5), Scranton (47.5), Washington & Jefferson (34.5), Maryville (25.0), Southern Virginia (18.0) and Waynesburg (10.00). Scranton 149-pounder Donnell Young was named the tournament's outstanding wrestler.
The Generals were paced by three championship finishes and a pair of runner-up placings.
Freshman Sammy Brusca (Rockville, Md./Georgetown Prep) went 2-0 overall to win the championship of the 125-pound weight class. Brusca pinned (4:28) Muhlenberg's Mike Tenenhaus in the championship match.
Junior 165-pounder Anthony Boniello (Katonah, N.Y./Somers) also went 2-0 overall to win his weight class. Boniello downed Scranton's Steve Tatum in the finals by a score of 3-1.
Junior Jesse Sataloff (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) claimed the championship of the 174-pound bracket by winning a trio of matches, including an 11-2 decision over Pat Wilson of Washington & Jefferson in the championship match.
Junior David Shubick (Bound Brook, N.J./Bound Brook) fell to Billy Hall of Muhlenberg in the championship match of the 133-pound weight class, while sophomore Rob Terrin (Baltimore, Md./Friends) was defeated in the championship match of the 141-pound bracket by Marco Priolo of Johns Hopkins.
The Generals return to action on Saturday as they travel to King's Point, N.Y., to participate in the Merchant Marines Tournament at 10:00 am.
