BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- Junior midfielder Kendall Korte (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) scored the game-winner in the second overtime period to send the Washington and Lee field hockey team to a 2-1 win over Bridgewater on Friday afternoon.
The Eagles got on the scoreboard first in the 14th minute when Kim Johnson scored off an assist from Rachel Doria and took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
W&L responded with an equalizer early in the second half when freshman forward Sallie Armstrong (Houston, Texas/St. John's School) registered a goal off an assist from sophomore forward Louise Bance (Manakin-Sabot, Va./St. Catherine's) at 40:45. Neither squad would score in remainder of regulation, sending the game to overtime knotted at 1-1.
The score remained tied through the first overtime period and into the second until Bance connected with Korte at 86:17 to give the Generals (6-2, 3-0 ODAC) their third conference win.
Junior Tara Rubenstein (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) minded the cage for W&L and made five saves, while Elizabeth Sullivan notched seven saves for Bridgewater (3-8, 1-3 ODAC).
Washington and Lee returns to action tomorrow when it travels to Huntingdon, Pa., to take on Juniata at 2 pm.
