LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's soccer team preserved its unbeaten season with a 1-0 upset of No. 17 Mary Washington at Watt Field on Wednesday afternoon.
Both teams entered the game undefeated, but W&L ended up with the victory as junior midfielder Josh Dodds (Marion, Iowa/Linn-Mar) scored the lone goal of the contest off a cross from junior forward Jack Palmer (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown) at 7:03.
With the win, the Generals (7-0, 2-0 ODAC) extended their winning streak to seven games, which equals their best start since 2000, and knocked off a ranked opponent for the first time since 2002.
Junior Ted Sheedy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel), the reigning ODAC Player of the Week, picked up his fourth shutout of the season, registering four saves in the win. Junior goalkeeper Greg Savage (Ellicott City, Md./Ellicott City) made three saves for Mary Washington (7-1).
The Generals look to continue their winning ways as they travel to Salem, Va., to take on the Maroons at 1 pm on Saturday.
