HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's soccer team stretched its winning streak to six games and remains unbeaten on the season after downing Hampden-Sydney, 4-0, on Saturday morning at Miller Field.
The Generals scored the lone goal in the first half when junior forward Jack Palmer (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown) found the back of the net off an assist from senior forward Kyle Garcia (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) in the 27th minute.
After going into halftime up 1-0, W&L (6-0, 2-0 ODAC) notched three goals in the second half to pull away for the win. Sophomore midfielder Tommy Pignatelli (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) notched a goal at 56:02 and sophomore midfielder John Lindsay (Cockeysville, Md./Loyola Blakefield) also registered a tally at 62:45. Freshman midfielder Drew Crowley (Weston, Mass./Weston) finished the scoring for the Generals in the 70th minute off an assist from senior midfielder Shep Russell (Little Rock, Ark./Central)
Junior Ted Sheedy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) played the entire contest in the goal for the Generals, notching five saves as he picked up his third shutout of the season. Ben Marchetti played in between the pipes for the Tigers (5-4-1, 1-1 ODAC), racking up nines saves in the loss.
The Generals continue their quest to stay undefeated on Tuesday when they take on non-conference foe Mary Washington at 4pm at Watt Field.
