W&L Volleyball Competes at the Emory Tournament

ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team competed in the first day of the Emory Tournament and went 1-1 on the day, defeating Rockford 30-22, 30-24, 30-23 in their first match of the tournament before falling to No. 10 Emory, 15-30, 31-33, 18-30 in the nightcap.

In the win over Rockford, the Generals were paced by sophomore outside hitter Laura Maurer (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII), who totaled 16 kills, 10 digs and four service aces, and junior right side Jess Hudock (Tampa, Fla./Holy Names), who amassed a team-high 16 digs and seven kills. Junior setter Lauren Rudolph (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Concordia Lutheran) notched 25 assists, eight digs and three blocks, while senior libero Lauren Edmonson (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) had eight digs and four services aces. Sophomore outside hitter Alex Scaggs (West Chester, Pa./Unionville) also added nine kills.

In the loss to the Eagles, Maurer led W&L with eight kills and eight digs. Hudock registered seven kills and seven digs, while Edmonson had nine digs and one service ace. Rudolph also contributed 15 assists.

The Generals (8-2, 3-0 ODAC) continue play in the Emory Tournament tomorrow as they take on Carthage at 2 pm.
