W&L Volleyball Defeats Virginia Wesleyan, 3-1

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team improved to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the ODAC with a 30-21, 22-30, 30-28, 30-25 win over Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday morning in Virginia Beach, Va.

The Generals were paced by sophomore outside hitter Laura Maurer (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII), who had a team-high 13 kills and 14 digs. Junior right side Jess Hudock (Tampa, Fla./Holy Names) posted nine kills, three service aces and three blocks, while freshmen outside hitters Katie Dunphy (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands) and Rachael Phillips (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Prep) notched eight kills each. Junior setter Lauren Rudolph (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Concordia Lutheran) registered a team-high 32 assists and 17 digs and senior libero Lauren Edmonson (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) recorded 18 digs and four service aces.

With the loss, Virginia Wesleyan fell to 7-4 overall and 0-2 in the ODAC.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Tuesday evening as it travels to Guilford for a 7:00 pm contest with the Quakers.
