NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team dropped its first match of the season, falling at Christopher Newport, 30-17, 28-30, 30-26, 30-25 on Friday evening.

The Generals (5-1) were paced by sophomore outside hitter Alex Scaggs (West Chester, Pa./Unionville), who had 15 kills and five digs. Junior right side Jess Hudock (Tampa, Fla./Holy Names) posted nine kills and nine digs, while senior libero Lauren Edmonson (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) notched 20 digs. Junior setter Lauren Rudolph (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Concordia Lutheran) added a team-best 23 assists and eight digs.

With the win, the Captains improved to 5-6 overall on the season.

W&L returns to action on Saturday at Virginia Wesleyan at 11:00 am.
