W&L Field Hockey Defeats Centre, 1-0

DANVILLE, Ky. -- Sophomore defender Liz Garson (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) scored on a penalty corner off a feed from junior midfielder Kendall Korte (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) at the 44:40 mark to lead the Washington and Lee field hockey team to a 1-0 win over Centre College on Sunday afternoon in Danville, Ky.

The game remainded scoreless until the second stanza due, in part, to the play of junior goalkeeper Tara Rubenstein (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr), who notched 13 total stops on the afternoon.

The Generals (2-0) were out-shot 14-5 on the game and the Colonels also held a 16-8 advantage in penalty corners. Amy Guagliardo posted four saves in the game for Centre (2-1).

With the win, W&L has recorded its first 2-0 start to a season in program history. The Generals will look to extended the streak when they travel to Randolph-Macon on Saturday for a 1:00 pm contest.
