W&L Women's Basketball Upends Lynchburg, 72-59

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Sophomore forward Kristen Krouchick (Holland, Pa./Nazareth Academy) scored a game-high 18 points and pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds to help lead Washington and Lee to a 72-59 victory over Lynchburg in ODAC women's basketball action on Sunday afternoon at the Warner Center.

The Hornets (7-14, 5-11) jumped out to a 12-6 lead with 11:50 remaining in the first half, but the Generals (9-12, 7-10) went on an 18-6 spurt to take a four point edge (22-18) with 3:40 left and went into halftime with a 29-25 advantage.

W&L opened the second half on a 14-2 run to push its lead to 16 points at 43-27 with 14:23 remaining and extended its advantage to 19 points on three different occasions. However, Lynchburg chipped away at the deficit and got within eight points at 63-55 with 1:12 left, but wouldn't be able to get any closer.

The Generals shot 46 percent (25-of-55) from the floor and forced 27 Lynchburg turnovers. They also held a 40-31 rebounding advantage. The Hornets shot 37 percent (20-of-54) from the field.

Krouchick was aided by junior center Jessica Hunsinger (Mayer, Ariz./The Orme School), who notched 15 points and six rebounds. Senior guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) tallied 14 points, a career-high tying nine assists and five steals, while freshman forward Kara Nadeau (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton) chipped in with 12 points and four boards.

Lynchburg was paced by junior center Caroline Wesley's (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame) 16 points and game-high 13 rebounds. Junior guard Whitney Dix (Roanoke, Va./Lord Botetourt) added 17 points, including 4-for-8 from three-point range.

Washington and Lee returns to the court on Thursday when it hosts Southern Virginia at 7:00 pm.
