W&L Women's Basketball Defeats R-MWC, 68-48

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Junior center Jessica Hunsinger (Mayer, Ariz./The Orme School) and sophomore guard Emily Wolff (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) each recorded a double-double to help lead Washington and Lee to a 68-48 win over Randolph-Macon Woman's College in ODAC women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at the Warner Center. Hunsinger tallied 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Wolff had 10 points and a career-high tying 10 boards.

The Generals (8-12, 6-10) led 11-7 with 14:41 left in the first half, but the WildCats (5-12, 4-10) took an 18-17 edge at the 7:17 mark on a layup by senior guard Becky Johnsen (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford). However, W&L went on an 14-3 run to close out the first half to take a 31-21 lead at the break.

R-MWC pulled to within seven points (35-28) with 17:57 remaining in the second half, but a 16-4 spurt by the Generals gave them a 51-32 advantage at the 8:54 mark. W&L would push its lead to as many as 25 points (68-43) en route to the 20-point victory.

The Generals shot just 35.3 percent (24-of-68) from the field, but held a 53-41 edge on the boards. The WildCats were just 20-62 (32.3%) from the floor, including 3-of-20 (15%) from three-point range.

Hunsinger and Wolff were aided by senior guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill), who scored a team-high 14 points with six rebounds and a game-high five assists.

R-MWC was paced by senior forward Meghan Stensrud's (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) game-high 17 points, eight rebounds and five steals. Junior guard Lianna Carrera (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) added 10 points, while senior forward Jennifer Prewitt (Crozier, Va./Goochland) chipped in with four points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

Washington and Lee returns to the court on Sunday when it hosts Lynchburg at 2:00 pm.
