W&L Women's Hoops Edged By No. 8 Randolph-Macon, 79-71

SALEM, Va. -- The top-seeded and eighth-ranked Randolph-Macon women's basketball team went on a 16-9 run over the final seven minutes en route to a 79-71 victory over eighth-seeded Washington and Lee in the quarterfinals of the ODAC Tournament on Thursday afternoon at the Salem Civic Center.

The Generals (11-15) led 12-10 with 13:32 remaining in the first half, but the Yellow Jackets (23-2) went on a 25-7 run over the next 8:53 to take a 16-point edge (35-19) at the 4:39 mark. W&L clawed back to trail by just nine points (39-30) heading into halftime.

The Generals opened the second half on a 13-4 spurt to knot the game at 43-43 with 16:11 left and took a 45-43 advantage on a layup by senior guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) at the 14:51 mark. On its next possession, R-MC senior guard Megan Silva buried a three-pointer to give the Yellow Jackets a 46-45 lead.

R-MC pushed its lead to five points (61-56) with 9:19 left, but the Generals got within 63-62 at the 7:00 mark on a layup by junior center Jessica Hunsinger (Mayer, Ariz./The Orme School). From there, the Yellow Jackets went on the aforementioned 16-9 run in posting the eight-point win.

W&L shot 42.3 percent (30-of-71) from the field and pulled down 43 rebounds, including 21 offensive boards. R-MC shot 48.5 percent (33-of-68) from the floor, including 5-of-8 from three-point range, and grabbed 35 rebounds.

The Generals were led by sophomore forward Kristen Krouchick (Holland, Pa./Nazareth Academy), who scored a team-high 21 points, dished out a career-high seven assists and grabbed five rebounds. Hunsinger finished with 19 points, nine rebounds and three blocks, while Feve notched 16 points, nine rebounds, a game-high eight assists and a game-best five steals.

Silva paced the Yellow Jackets with a game-high 22 points, five assists, four rebounds and four steals. Senior forward Michelle Orton totaled 16 points and nine rebounds, while freshman guard Amanda Hiltunen chipped in with 12 points.
