BUENA VISTA, Va. -- The Washington and Lee wrestling team opened its 2006-07 season by competing at the Knight Open hosted by Southern Virginia on Saturday morning in Buena Vista, Va. The Generals posted six individual championships in their opening competition.
Senior Max Courtney (Jeffersonville, Pa./LaSalle College), juniors Kirk Adamson (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's), Anthony Boniello (Katonah, N.Y./Somers), David Shubick (Bound Brook, N.J./Bound Brook) and Erick Gagne (Philadelphia, Pa./William Penn Charter), and sophomore Rob Terrin (Baltimore, Md./Friends) all placed first in their weight classes.
Courtney claimed victory in the 184-pound weight class, while Adamson was the individual champion at 197 pounds. Boniello earned the individual title at the 165-pound weight class and Shubick placed first at 133-pounds. Gagne and Terrin were champions of the 149- and 141-weight classes, respectively.
The Generals return to the mat on Sat., Nov. 18 when they travel to Collegeville, Pa., to take part in the Ursinus Invitational. The competition begins at 9:30 am.
