SALEM, Va. -- Second-seeded Lynchburg downed the third-seeded and 22nd-ranked Washington and Lee men's soccer team, 1-0, in the semifinals of the 2006 ODAC Tournament on Friday morning at Roanoke College's Elizabeth Campus.
The match remained tied at 0-0 until senior midfielder Casey Zambor notched the game-winner on an unassisted tally at 64:14. The Hornets held on for the duration of regulation to knock the Generals out of the conference tournament.
Junior goalkeeper Ted Sheedy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) made three saves for W&L, while LC's goalkeeper Marcus Jordan stopped two would-be goals.
With the win, Lynchburg (13-4-2) advances to the 2006 ODAC Championship match and will take on the fourth-seeded Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday at 1:00 pm in Salem, Va. The Generals fall to 12-3-2 overall and will find out on Sunday evening if they received an at-large bid to the 2006 NCAA Tournament.
