EMU Defeats W&L Field Hockey, 3-0, in ODAC Semifinals

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Third-seeded Eastern Mennonite ended the second-seeded Washington and Lee field hockey team's run in the 2006 ODAC Tournament with a 3-0 victory in the semifinals on Friday evening at Shellenberger Field.

The Royals got on the board early in the first half when Sarah Roth tallied an unassisted score at 7:25. Lauren Michel would also notched an unassisted goal in the first half to put EMU up 2-0 going into the break. Eastern Mennonite extended its lead to 3-0 in the second half when Julie Denlinger made good on a shot at 37:15.

Junior goalkeeper Tara Rubenstein (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) made six saves for the Generals, while EMU's goalkeeper Katie Moyer totaled two saves.

With the win, Eastern Mennonite (13-5) will advance to the 2006 ODAC Championship game and will face top-seed Lynchburg on Saturday at 4:00 pm at Shellenberger Field. The Generals conclude their 2006 campaign with a 14-6 overall mark.
