W&L Men's Basketball Defeats Dickinson

CARLISLE, Pa. – Junior forward Greg Bienemann (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) tallied a game-high 28 points, including 20 in the second half, to lead the Washington and Lee men's basketball team to a 78-65 victory over Dickinson on Tuesday evening.

The Generals (2-1) shot 51.9 percent from the floor, including 61.5 percent in the second half, and out-rebounded DC by a 39-24 margin.

W&L trailed just once in the first half (2-0) and stretch its lead to as many as nine points (15-6) with 10:16 left before the break.  The Red Devils closed to within one point (22-21) with 5:35 left in the half, but the Generals pushed back out to an eight-point lead (35-27) at the intermission.

Dickinson chipped away at the W&L lead and eventually took a one-point advantage (48-47) with 10:51 left, but the Generals again stretched the lead to eight points at 58-50 with 6:56 remaining.  The Red Devils made one last run to tie the game at 60-60 with 3:50 remaining, but the Generals would outscore Dickinson 18-5 the rest of the way for the road victory.

Bienemann shot 10-for-13 from the floor and 8-of-12 from the foul line and added six rebounds.  Junior forward Femi Kusimo (Cross Lanes, W.Va./Charleston Catholic) chipped in 14 points and nine rebounds.

Dickinson (1-2) was led by forward Mike Geosits and center Tom Leszczynski, who tallied 20 and 18 points, respectively.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday as it hosts Oberlin College for a 2:00 pm contest.
