LANCASTER, Pa. -- The Washington and Lee men's and women's swim teams competed against Franklin & Marshall and Carnegie Mellon on Saturday afternoon in Lancaster, Pa. The men swept both teams, downing F&M by a score of 207-54 and knocking off CMU, 149-113. The women were defeated by the Diplomats, 167.5-94.5, and the Tartans, 168-94.
The men, who have opened the season with a six-meet unbeaten streak, were paced by sophomore Paul Crook (Nashville, Tenn./Montgomery Bell), who won three events, and senior Mike Ginder (Jacksonville, Fla./Episcopal), who notched two first-place finishes.
Crook took first place in the 200 free with an NCAA "B" cut time of 1:42.71, then won the 500 free (4:41.77) and the 200 IM (1:58.27). Ginder won both the 100 back (52.99) and 200 back (1:54.95) and also was a member of the winning 400 free (3:09.44) and 200 medley (1:36.75) relay teams. Additionally, junior Tim McGlaston (Attleboro, Mass./Attleboro) placed first in the 50 free with a NCAA "B" cut time of 21.13 and junior Alex Sweet (Louisville, Ky./Kentucky Country Day) topped the standings in the 100 free (48.07).
The women were paced by the performances of freshman Jenna Worsham (Cumming, Ga./Wesleyan School), sophomore Lindsey Strachan (Midlothian, Va./Maggie Walker Governor's School) and sophomore Jessica Shaw (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park).
Against CMU, Worsham took first place in the 200 free (2:04.52), while Strachan won the 100 back (1:01.80), the 200 back (2:13.18) and the 500 free (5:27.55). In the meet against F&M, Shaw placed first in the 100 breast (1:12.78).
Both the W&L women's and men's swim teams return to action on Sunday against Rowan at 12:00 pm in Glassboro, N.J.
