LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's and women's swimming teams were in action on Sunday afternoon for a dual meet with Gettysburg College. The men downed the Bullets by a score of 153-49, but the women fell by a score of 134-71.
The W&L men were led by seniors Kevin Hayes (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) and Mike Ginder (Jacksonville, Fla./Episcopal), who each won won a pair of individual events and swam on the winning 400 medley relay team. Hayes emerged victorious in the 200 IM with a time of 2:02.34 and won the 200 breast with a time of 2:16.13. Ginder won the 200 free (1:44.24) and the 200 back (1:57.65). The two were joined on the 400 medley relay team (3:37.36) by junior Alex Sweet (Louisville, Ky./Kentucky Country Day) and freshman Winston Stagg (Midlothian, Va./Maggie L. Walker Governor's School).
The W&L women had a pair of individual winners as sophomore Lindsey Strachan (Midlothian, Va./Maggie Walker Governor's School) won the 200 back (2:12.85) and freshman Jenna Worsham (Cumming, Ga./Wesleyan School) won the 200 IM (2:19.54).
Both squads return to action on Saturday when they travel to Franklin & Marshall for tri-meet against the host Diplomats and Carnegie Mellon. The meet is set to begin at 1:00 pm.
