HOBOKEN, N.J. -- The fifth-seeded Washington and Lee volleyball team fell to second-seeded Stevens Tech in the Sweet 16 of the 2006 NCAA Division III Championships by a score of 26-30, 38-40, 30-22, 22-30 on Saturday evening in Hoboken, N.J.
The Generals, who were making their first-ever appearance in the Sweet 16, were led by junior right side Jess Hudock's 13 kills and three
service aces and sophomore outside hitter Laura Maurer, who totaled 11 kills. Freshman setter Kristi Stevens notched 22 assists and senior libero Lauren Edmonson tallied 16 digs and three service aces. Sophomore middle blocker Kassie Bagley also contributed eight blocks.
With the loss, the Generals complete the 2006 season with a 29-8 overall mark. With the win, Stevens Tech improves to 34-5 and advances to the Elite Eight for the first time in program history.
